West Irian Jaya was proclaimed a new province in Indonesia in 2004 and was abvgle to vote as a separte province in the 2004 elections, The Province has a great number of attractions. The province has been extracted from the huge Papua province and consists of seven? kabupaten from the west of what was papua . The kabupaten include Raja Ampat, Sorong, Sorong Kota, Fak fak, and Teluk Wondama. The Raja Ampat island group has some of the most wonderful diving left in the world. Spectacular untouched corals and myriad fish invite the diver. Wonderful ikat cloths also originate in the province. For those who love nature the Teluk Cenderawasih National Park beckons in Teluk Wondama. It is 500 kilometers across and offers some spectaccular scenery. What is claimed to be the world's deepest cave has also been discovered by a French team and measured at 2000 metres deep. It is in the village of Irameba, Anggi district, in Manokwari region. Tourists wishing to visit the area should seek advice before travelling. |
